​DANDELION SMUGGLER

2022年、三国の国境が接する街、バーゼルに滞在し、日本では外来種扱いの西洋タンポポをスイスで摘み、ドイツを経由して種を採取し、フランスの地に植える「DANDELION SMUGGLER」という計画を実行した。いとも簡単な国境越えは自転車で片道たったの約７km。そもそも、人の手を借りなくてもタンポポはすでに何度も国境を越えているかもしれない。一見、無意味でイタズラのようなその行為から人々にとっての国境が浮かびあがる。賑やかなバーゼルの街も少し前にはロックダウンを経験していた。社会はさまざまな問題を抱えつつも、国境を越える自由を願う人々に出会った。この成果展では、その一連の記録をボードゲームで追体験できる仕組みを試みた。

In 2022, while staying in Basel, a city located at the intersection of three national borders, I executed a project called "DANDELION SMUGGLER" in which I picked dandelions (considered an invasive species in Japan) in Switzerland, extracted their seeds while passing through Germany, and planted them in France. The journey across multiple borders was extremely easy, involving just a bicycle ride of about seven kilometers each way. Of course, dandelions have probably crossed borders countless times without human intervention. This seemingly meaningless and mischievous act highlights our reification of the concept of borders. Basel, usually a vibrant city, had recently experienced a lock down. Amid this society grappling with various challenges, I encountered people longing for the freedom to cross borders. In this exhibition, I document the project in the form of a board game that traces the sequence of events.
